Rapid-Turn Titanium Casting Service to Support Demanding Applications
Titanium casting is offered through 3Diligent's metal casting service. Titanium is a relatively expensive, but very strong and relatively lightweight metal, making it a favorite of the aerospace industry. Its biocompatibility also makes it a favorite of the medical device industry.
3Diligent works with several grades of titanium. Most notably, 3Diligent offers a number of commercially pure titanium grades, as well as Grade 5 and Grade 23 alloys.
Among them, Grade 1 is the softest titanium, providing excellent ductility and corrosion resistance benefits. It is well suited to cold forming and welding. It delivers excellent impact toughness, and a high strength-to-weight ratio. It is used across various industries, including maritime, medical, and industrial. Grade 2 provides excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion. It is not as easily formed as Grade 1, but offers higher degrees of strength.
Commercially Pure Titanium is commonly juxtaposed against Titanium 64 (Grade 5 Titanium alloy), which is the most commonly utilized titanium alloy on the planet. Ti64 is decidedly harder and stronger than CPTi, with a much smaller elongation at break (14% vs. 24%). It has an allocation of 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium, which drive both the nickname Ti64 and its material properties. Ti 64 ELI (Grade 23) carries many of the same properties of standard Ti64. It offers slightly lower fatigue strength (~500 MPa vs. ~600 MPa), shear strength (~555 MPa vs. ~650 MPa), and tensile strength (~935 MPa vs. ~1100 MPa). The oxygen content of Grade 23 is 0.13% maximum, which provides higher ductility and fracture toughness.
