Ceramic is an inorganic, non-metallic, often crystalline oxide, nitride or carbide material. There are also some elements, such as carbon or silicon, that may fall into the ceramic class. This class of material shares certain traits, such as brittle, hard, strong in compression, and weak in shearing and tension.
