Welding Service Process Overview
Welding is a process in which two or more metal, thermoplastic, or wood parts are attached to one another through the application of heat, pressure, or both. With some materials, a special process may be required in order to weld the components to become a parent component. Welding results in "fusion" bonds, different from those made from brazing and soldering, which do not melt the base metal.
Materials used to form the join are called fillers or consumable electrodes in the case of arc welding. Usually, these fillers or consumables are of a similar material to the parent—which makes for a more homogenous weldment—but not always. If the filler is of a different material, it is known as heterogeneous.
